Short Eared Owl

I had a wonderful start to the New Year at Pulborough Brooks, where I saw my first short-eared owl. We had brilliant views of the owl hunting over the reedbeds from Winpenny Hide as it made several forays back and forth, keeping low and disappearing out of sight, only to re-appear seconds later.

After a good ten minutes the owl headed east and we were able to get our breath back.

We also had close views of a stonechat and a treecreeper and there were large flocks of lapwing, as well teal, shoveller and wigeon – all in all, a memorable day!
